| More than 10
years ago, when I produced and hosted The Omega Report television
show, I forecast that soon a new addiction would replace drugs. I said
it would be similar to sticking your finger in a light socket to get
high.
That wasn't too far off. Can you imagine legally obtaining any drug you wanted - marijuana, heroin, crystal meth, rave, acid, ecstacy, cocaine, oxycodone, demerol, vicodin? Well, today you can. No prescription, no age restrictions. The frequencies and effects of these and hundreds more have now been synthesized and are freely available on the Internet to anyone for as little as $3.00 per "drug." To make matters worse, the company gives the "player" away free. Let's look at what they say about crack cocaine and heroin:
Just as fire can both help and harm - by keeping us from freezing to death or burning us alive - so, too, is this Brave New World of electro-magnetics a double-edged sword which should be used responsibly, but also offers a dark side with possibly tragic consequences. |
This company
seems to take no responsibility for the possibility that its
"product" can lead to addiction. They don't even address the
issue that I can find. Yet they offer 20 recreational drugs (and that's
only one category) which includes:
Our children, as they leave the world of childhood and face the perils and dangers of "the real world" out on the streets, have become disillusioned with the hypocrisy of parents and institutions, disappointed in their own power and capabilities and afraid they have no future. They turn to drugs as their escape from reality. This "new drug" isn't chemical, it's electromagnetic and as it catches on to those tech-savvy kids with Internet access, it could destroy the current, violent drug trade with something that, so far, is legal, and can be hidden away innocuously on a hard drive. It won't show up on any drug tests and it doesn't have the "chemical" side effects, but still - what senseless crimes can be committed in the 30-45 minutes it takes to "get high" on electronic crack? All it takes is an iPod and a kid on wheels with a gun. It's out there now and it's too late to stop it and put the toothpaste back in the tube. It's too late to stop its spread, even though in time the government may regulate or even outlaw it. Like downloaded, pirated music there will always be a market for it - the perfect case study of technology outstripping society's ability to keep up with it socially and legally. It's being used at a growing frequency in college and university dorms. I hesitated to even mention the company, but it's already being broadcast on radio stations. Sticking our heads in the sand and ignoring it, in the hopes it will go away, is ridiculously irresponsible. The kids already know about it - do you? You should! As parents, as caregivers, we need to know about it and decide what we're going to do to deal with it. Listen to this radio show excerpt on the Dex at Night show on WTPT Radio in Greenville, SC. (published April 12, 2008): http://i-doser.com/WTPT_SC.mp3 Similarly, videos are beginning to show up on YouTube and elsewhere that provide the same thing free. But because we scoff at it and won't take it seriously, it's ignored - at society's peril. |
