Introduction to Modalities

deepening the awareness of well-being.

The long list of modalities (or techniques) you see at the right as links is composed of virtually every modality known that is however related to energy healing.

Some of them have a strong basis in fact, with supporting clinical studies.

Others are supported by anecdotal evidence only - stories told by people who claim it works from their own personal experiences.

Still others are, in my opinion, far from unproven because (a) those practitioners cannot seem to agree upon even the most basic premises of their modality, (b) there is no anecdotal evidence except from those trying to "sell you something" in that category, or (c) there are no supporting clinical trials.

The third category is similar to how I personally regard the so-called "art of channeling." It may be possible, but a lot of those claiming to be channellers are con artists trying to get your money.

For example, thousands of people claim to be the personal representative of the Archangel Michael (or some other such deity) and some even claim to be channeling God.

If true, their messages would not be so conflicting and contradictory. They would, literally, all be on the same wavelength.

The same is true of, for example, tuning forks. Different sellers of tuning forks (at least among those who are open enough to list the frequencies) often claim vastly different numbers for, example, the planet Jupiter.

This can be very misleading and actually harmful to your health because (a) the planetary/cosmic frequencies are established scientific fact, so there should be no wide differences, (b) the heavenly bodies have many different frequencies depending on what period is used.

I think there is strong and ancient evidence in favor of the benefits of tuning forks and I don't look down my nose at that modality at all. You just need to make sure those trying to sell you something are not comparing apples and oranges.

The same is true of music itself. Middle C is not the same frequency in all cultures. The entire musical scale has changed over the years and is still different in Italy, for example, than in the U.S. The ancient Solfeggio scale used in age-old chants is not the same scale used in modern music.

For this reason I cannot personally endorse one modality over another unless I have very strong evidence that (a) it is consistent and (b) that it works.

This recent news story (April 24, 2009) shows just how much electricity and electromagnetic healing has spread in our society. It can be as simple as an "electric bandage" that can heal wounds that haven't healed since World War II - 70 years!

Electric Bandage

More than 850,000 chronic wounds are diagnosed in the United States each year. These open sores can be extremely painful, prone to infection and can put patients at risk for amputation.

Now there is a new option just approved by the Food and Drug Administration.  It does not have a plug or cord, but you can call it an electric bandage.

Tom White suffers from a chronic wound.

"I got wounded over Palmero in a B-17 raid.  It was the lead navigator and our plane was hit," said Tom.

Tom White has more than photographs and medals to mark his military days.  Ever since he was wounded in World War II, he has been fighting a battle with war wounds that would not heal.

"They said I was caught between a rock and a hard place and they could do nothing but recommend amputation," said Tom.

Just when it seemed like there were no other options, a doctor recommended something new.

"It looks like a bandage, but does not act like a regular bandage," said Dr. Scott Sheftel, an associate professor of dermatology at the University of Arizona.

When the electric bandage is moistened, it activates zinc and silver elements on the surface, creating a small electric current that penetrates the skin to stimulate healing.  Patients feel nothing during the process.

"It's a normal physiologic stimulus. We're not giving something that's going to shock you like a TENS unit. We're recreating the bioelectric potential that's there.  It stimulates healing, stimulates cellular migration and that is part of the healing process," said Dr. Sheftel.

Thanks to the new bandage and some TLC from his wife, Tom's wound has gone from bad to good.

"It's working. It's tough, it's been a year, but it's working," said Tom.

Soon, Tom hopes to be walking again. At 90 years young, he's looking forward to many good years ahead.

The FDA approved the electric bandage in December. The electric bandage is not covered by insurance yet, but its creators hope it will be within the next six months.

What Is Disease and Illness?

An interesting way of looking at it is, first, semantically - in terms of the language itself.

Many wholistic practitioners point out that disease = dis-ease.

What other words convey the same or similar meaning? Just look in the dictionary at words that begin with "dis".

Discordant, disharmony, displeasure

What Causes Disease and Illness?

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has reported that 80-85% of all disease is created by stress. Dr. Bruce Liption goes even further, stating as much 95% of disease is stress-related.

Physicians treat symptoms, not causes. If you look in the Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) you'll find that we simply have no clue why or how certain pharmaceuticals have the effects they do - good or bad. Under the Action listing, you will often find "unknown", "it is thought" or "it is believed."

To say "it is believed" a drug works a certain way is nothing more than expression of faith - no different from a person's religious/spiritual faith, but based on the much more fallible foundation of science than of God.
