**The Chakra Energy**

Bioenergetics is, generically, the whole field of using energy in all its forms, to work with and heal the body. But some have appropriated the term and claimed it as their own exclusive property.

Bioenergetics is a way of understanding personality in terms of the body and its energetic processes.

Bioenergetic Analysis is a form of therapy that combines work with the body and the mind to help people resolve their emotional problems and realize more of their potential for pleasure and joy in living.

The International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (IIBA) is a membership organization with the responsibility of certifying Bioenergetic Analysis practitioners, providing continuing education for the profession, and advancing the Art and Science of Bioenergetic Analysis.

One of the problems I've found with a lot of the New Age modalities is that people hijack a generic term, trademark it, then turn it into a commercial brand for the sake of commercial sales or multiple income opportunities, leaving the public confused and disoriented.

To my mind, for example, the word "electricity" is a generic term, not one which can be trademarked and claimed as one's exclusive technology or idea.

The definition given here (by the Board of Trustees of the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis) of "bioenergetics" is vague, couched in generic terms itself, without specific modalities or approaches. While it claims to do a lot - and may very well be useful - it doesn't begin to explain how it does what it claims to do.

I suppose you learn that secret only after you pay a large sum for the training or membership ($100 to $400 a year).

Where the Phoenix Project differs with many of the "gurus" and "high priests" of the New Age healing movement is that our goal is to present specific definitions and specific approaches and methods that do away with the often expensive "middle man" (the high priests and priestesses of the New Age) and empower you, the individual, to choose and apply your own choices of healing modalities.

Access to good health should be a right, not a privilege for those with enough money. The knowledge to take care of your own health should be free, not burdened with high price tags. Some get this concept, some don't.

What is Bioenergetic Analysis?

Bioenergetic Analysis is a specific form of body-psychotherapy – based upon the continuity between body and mind – rooted in the work of Wilhelm Reich and founded by Alexander Lowen.

BA basically combines a bodily, analytic and relational therapeutic work, based upon an energetic understanding.
Bioenergetic Analysis helps to release chronic muscular tensions, manage affects, expand the capacity for intimacy, heal sexual difficulties and learn new, more fulfilling ways of relating to others. Tenderness, aggression, assertion – and their confluence in sexuality – are seen as core lifesaving forces.

The therapeutic relationship provides a place of safety in which healing begins. The therapist reads the body, resonates with its energy, feels the emotions, listens, hears and answers the words. The language of the body (posture/gesture, breathing, motility, expression) is on focus as it indicates the status on the way to personhood – from the past to the present and future.

Techniques are used which address the energetic aspect of the individual, including her self-perception, self-expression, and self-possession. These also include work with body contact, boundaries, grounding, and the understanding of muscular tensions as indications of somatic and psychological defenses against past trauma.

The goal of therapy is more than the absence of symptoms - it is having aliveness, getting a taste of pleasure, joy, love – vibrant health.
