| Pardon
a little skepticism!
While I have no doubt that tuning forks are valuable aids in the application of electromagnetic healing techniques, as are virtually all of the other modalities discussed in this website - my background was science first. While I believe that something indeed can be done, I don't necessarily believe all the claims of the companies or practitioners that make money from it. Why? Because, like "channeling", there is far too much discrepancy in their claims when you place them side by side. How many people who "channel" the Archangel Michael, for example, have widely different messages filled with contradictions? If it were really Michael talking to all these people, wouldn't he be consistent? Or do archangels just enjoy playing mind games on us mere mortals? When dealing with frequencies, we are dealing with very specific constants where 10 = 10. It doesn't equal 13 or 28 or 31. Likewise, a foot equals 12 inches, invariably. It never equals 13. There are few constants in our world. Even the speed of light and sound vary, depending on whether they are traveling through space, air, solids or water. Even in music, Middle C may not always be the same, depending on where you are and what scale you're using. But when, for example, the A in the middle octave is identified as being 440 Hertz, then that number can be regarded as an unchangeable standard. The problem in assessing tuning forks - besides some of the unsubstantiated claims made for their powers - is that some different manufacturers claim "their" forks do these strange and wondrous things ... yet their frequencies are either different from others who make the same claims or, worse yet, they don't even disclose the frequencies of their tuning forks. First, do not buy forks from a manufacturer who won't tell you the precise frequencies of their products. I'm not talking about forks that are just tuned at different octaves or at harmonic tones. I'm talking about numbers that are off by some odd amount that are not harmonic. Second, there are so many claims that tuning forks will "instantly" transform your body/mind/spirit - a claim I doubt very much, because it typically takes six minutes for the body to make its change from its starting frequency to the desired frequency through entrainment. I have seen no substantiation for these claims. A microwave oven likewise changes the infrared frequency of the food placed inside it. It may be quick, but it is not instantaneous. With these caveats in mind, I set out to compile as much specific information as I could from the sometimes limited amount available, and then compare claims and frequencies. If I know the frequency I can duplicate it with computer frequency generation software. How Tuning Forks Are
Used When you strike a tuning fork however, you'll notice how it causes the air around the fork to vibrate, sending out very strong vibrating impulses through the air. Because of this, they have been adopted by healers who use them to increase the amount of energy on parts of the body they are trying to heal. All you do is strike a fork and place it near any body part you wish to heal. They are also used in energetic healing, for example, by putting them in the vicinity of the different chakras or energy centers located along the spine. These energy centers also just happen to be where the nerve centers are found along the spine that send impulses to the different organs, so by energizing these areas, you stimulate the organs into greater health-giving activity. Should I choose Standard or Weighted? What are the uses for each? Standard tuning forks are claimed to be great for vibrational healing such as sound toning, and for working with energies, such as opening energy blocks, clearing chakras, or cleansing auras. In the process of promoting the flow of vital life force within the human body and the human energy field, they are intended to assist and facilitate clearing, balancing, and energizing the energy body in a simple and gentle way. Standard tuning forks also have the unique quality of being able to produce harmonic intervals (multiple pitches that occur at the same time) when struck together. However, you can't just pick up any two forks and strike them together or you could end up with very discordant tones. The two forks should be perfect harmonics of each other's base frequencies. Weighted tuning forks don't produce harmonic intervals as easily, however they have a much stronger vibration, making them easier to feel, and excellent for uses such as acupuncture, sound puncture, and muscle relaxation techniques. In addition to their own sound and vibration healing qualities, weighted tuning forks can physically transfer their frequency of vibration to the body by using forced resonance, or by directly applying the handle (also called stem) of the tuning fork on the body at point of focus, such as a meridian or chakra. This is a way of creating movement or frequency vibration in any area of the body, and as such, weighted tuning forks are known to give immediate relief from pain when used with interferential therapy techniques. Weighted tuning forks vibrate for longer periods of time, and stay at their exact frequency longer. I personally prefer the sound of forks over computer tones, just as I prefer the rich tones of bowls - but prefer the flexibility of computer tones over forks. There are those who claim they can hear the difference between the quality of a recording on a wax LP album and that of a CD. Technically, there is indeed a difference because the sound from a CD is "sampled" 44,000 times a second, but I doubt few people can actually split up a second's worth of CD sound and tell the difference between one sample and the next - 1/44,000th of a second is going to be pretty darned hard to isolate! I hope to soon have here a comparison of sounds recorded from the original instruments and the computer- generated frequencies. Be aware, though, that both are digitized, meaning both are sampled at 44,000 Hertz. But the goal is to see how close the tuning fork samples are to the computer-generated samples. others, and may be helpful for beginners. So let's take a look at some of the manufacturers, their claims and their comparative frequencies, so we can perhaps identify the best sources. The sets below are all sold by ToolsforWellness.com, but there are also other sources such as Acutronics. I use the ones below because this seller seems to have a much greater variety available in one place. First, there a wide variety of tuning fork "sets" - collections that follow a certain progression or are supposedly for a certain application. The Fibonacci number series
starts with the number 1 and grows by adding the last two numbers in
the sequence together to produce the next number.
For example 1 is added to 2 to produce 3 then 3 added to 2 to produce 5. The sequence looks like this: 1,1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, ……..n.
